FAQs

  • How old do you have to be to be part of the Portland Ski Club program?
Most of our skiers taking part in the lesson program are later Elementary and Middle School kids, though we welcome youth skiers ages 7 and up. The PSC Wednesday Lift Pass is great for those who wants to come ski with us, but do not want or need to take part in a lesson.  It's a great choice for parents and chaperones, as well as siblings (and their friends!) not taking part in the lessons.

  • I'm signing my child up for lessons, but how do I know what level to chose?
Pleasant Mountain offers lessons for skiers of all levels - from brand new skiers who have never skied before, to advanced skiers looking for a fun group in which to hone their Black Diamond skills.

    Very generally:
    • New Skiers have never skied before
    • Beginner Skiers are starting to link wedge turns and can can safely stop and use the lifts
    • Intermediate Skiers can comfortably link their turns and ski Blue runs
    • Advanced Skiers can safely manage speed while carving turns and skiing with parallel skis, and can comfortably handle Black runs.
    • Note that depending on the pool of skiers doing lessons, there is often more than one group within each level. This helps to ensure that groups have kids of the same ability. Also: it's also not uncommon for kids to move to a group that's a better fit after the first or second lesson.
